HOW DEEP THE FATHER’S LOVE FOR US

My Deep Roots record is – strictly speaking – a hymns project. So while “How Deep The Father’s Love” was only written 20 years ago, I knew it would fit in beautifully with a set of older, classic songs of the Christian faith.

In the studio, we went with a pretty simple arrangement that slowly rose to a dramatic conclusion; “His wounds have paid my ransom” – a lyric that answers the question asked by the title. Rachael Lampa provided some beautiful, heart-felt harmonies, and it quickly became one of my favorite tracks on the record.

What are some other modern worship songs that you feel could stand alongside great hymns of the faith? Comment below, y’all.

I think one of the very best modern worship songs is Jesus Messiah by Chris Tomlin.

  2. Donna Patton says:

    Shout to the Lord!!

  3. Dakota Kinkade says:

Honestly, it would be much easier to list the songs that WON’T last. I Could Sing of Your Love, Everlasting God, Open The Eyes of My Heart, Come Now Is The Time to Worship . . . Okay, I take it back. It’s much easier to list songs that might actually last. How about … In Christ Alone.

  4. Chad Marvin says:

Yo Bro! It’s been a while. “10,000 Reasons”

  5. Connor Hansen says:

I think there are a bunch of great songs out there right now that will stand the test of time. Like Great I Am, Forever by Kari Jobe, and Great Are You Lord by All Sons and Daughters.

  6. Stacy D says:

    10,000 Reasons!

  7. Thom Marks says:

In Christ Alone, Oceans, I Will Rise, 10,000 Reasons…

  8. S Rickard says:

How about Mighty to Save? And I so love Oceans. I think both of those will still be sung for years.

  9. Meredith Sumner says:

I would add “Blessed Be Your Name” and “Cornerstone” to the list! And I love your version of “I Love You Lord!”

  10. Randall Turing says:

I’m kind of an old hymns guy, myself. But I do like How Deep The Father’s Love For Us and In Christ Alone. Couple other good ones too.

  11. Tami says:

Our church sings “Holy Spirit” and I think that one is destined to be a classic!

  12. Sarah says:

I vote for Cornerstone! Of course, most of the lyrics are from a much-loved old hymn, so it kind of has an edge already.
