The kids and I just finished watching The Lord of The Rings (Fellowship of the Ring – Extended version). It was their first time, and they loved it. Epic in every way. Beautifully filmed and designed, mostly great acting (I still scratch my head about the choice of Elijah Wood for Frodo) and themes of loyalty and friendship, love and honor, kindness and sacrifice.

So what about you? My wife is pretty creeped out by Gollum, so she’s not a fan. Do you love LOTR? Hate it? Indifferent? Take the poll below and let’s see what y’all think!
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Love the movies and books … Super fan me. Also it’s not golem it’s smeagul

  2. Tony says:

Non-Fans obviously live in the shadows of Mordor and are under the evil spell of Sauron.

  3. Jen says:

Too intense and slimy for me ( the orks? Orgs? Whatever you call them…)
I like the story, but the visuals are just too intense for me, so the next time my hubby wants to watch it with the boys, maybe daughter and I will go out and look at fabric or watch Anne of Green Gables upstairs!

I don’t have any problems with other people liking it and if I am allowed to do something else and sort of watch it ( the less intense slime-free moments), I’m good with that as well…pull out some quilting, grade schoolwork for the kids…

Thanks for your comments, everyone! We’re now watching the second film (The Two Towers – extended version) and the kids are definitely fans. Emily thinks Gollum is cute, but that’s probably just because she’s 12 and her mom thinks Gollum is creepy…

  5. Christi says:

I just don’t get it. I’ve seen some of them. My husband loves it but Galem creeps me out too.

  6. Jason says:

I would be a Superfan if I had the budget.

  7. Greg Putnum says:

I’ve never read the books, but the movies are fantastic. I’ve seen them over and over, and every time I watch them I’m amazed at the depth and richness of the story.

  8. CarolBeth says:

Is THIS the poll? Or am I missing it somewhere on the page. LOVE LOTR. It has joined the category of mythos, along with (don’t HIT me for saying this!) Harry Potter, or the Chronicles of Narnia.

  9. Sue says:

My husband and I are huge fans of the entire film trilogy…we even named our cats Frodo and Sam! Not sure if I agree with you about Elijah Wood, I think he did a fine job – care to elaborate about your misgivings? Who would you have preferred to be cast as Frodo? Did you have any favorite book characters that didn’t make it into the movies? Looking forward to your thoughts 🙂
